Christmas Lights Competition

The lights in Port Mandurah during the 2010/11 season were as spectacular as usual!  Individuals put in real effort and, in many cases, neighbours and neighbourhoods combined to give a beautiful display.  It certainly demonstrated a feeling of community spirit.  Whilst the lights display was at its peak we boarded a boat to take our two judges Don Randall MP and Renee Hardman of Elders Real Estate for a two hour journey to select the winners of the annual PMRA Christmas Lights Competition.  The top three winners were Ron & Helen Taggart, Darryl & Cheryl Smith and Bill & Waverly Treby.  They, and fellow "frothy" Peter Gibsone, all kindly donated their prizes to the Rotary Wishing Well, which brings the grand total raised by the Rotary Wishing Well to nearly $9,500.  Well done to Rene and Isabella Jorgensen for collecting such an amazing sum for the Women's Refuge.  On 13th February Bouvard Cruises took sixty winners and guests for a relaxing tour around the canals.  our major sponsors of this event were Bouvard Cruises (boat and crew), Renee Hardman (4 major prizes) Airefrig Australia (refreshments and food) and the City of Mandurah via Mayor Paddi Creevey (prizes).  Several other Mandurah businesses also provided :  Stage Door Bar & Brasserie, Reading Cinema, Cafe Pronto, Australian Sailing Museum, and Sebel Mandurah.  Thank you to all.

One of our generous sponsors, Rob Steele of Play’s Kool Child Care Centre, has donated the children’s gifts for Santa to distribute on his merry way around the canals. So look out for Santa from 5.30pm on 24th December. The boats will be easy to identify; loud Christmas carols, the ringing of bells and a large PMRA banner.   Our happy band of volunteers is ready to go.
